They brought it out to the DC auto show in this really bad green... I tried to show my dad the car, as manual V8 sedans are something he's usually interested in. He took one look and said that the color ruined the car. C'mon Chevy! Bring them out in a color like the sexy black all those Cadillacs were!

I know I hate it when they come to the car show with that bronze baby shit color, I can't believe they even put some colors on cars.

I would too! It was near the C7 targa which got tons of attention.
Probably gonna do a full write up of the show later, didn't get too many pictures though.
Ford is paying me $50 to test drive two cars whenever I want!

That colour was a throw back to 'Hothouse Green' which was a limited release on the VY Commodore.
I never liked it then. I still don't like it now.

nice to see some heritage, but they should've picked a better color!
LOL at your username, I love the video. Posted it here a while back.

yeah, for the most part the manufacturers did pretty well. Buick was boring though. BMW brought some really nice colors out, a brown-ish 650i with heavy flake, looked incredible. But they also brought a new X6M out in this strange teal color that I surprisingly liked.

Stop it. That green is awesome :)
The real reason they aren't selling is the lack of a base V6 model. Also, they need to sell the Caprice to retail customers and just drop the stupid Impala.

I did the Jag/Land Rover booth this year and all our cars had classy colors.

oh yes, the Jag booth had this Orange F-type coupe with a black roof and black wheels, it had massive yellow brakes. It was absolutely stunning, I saw a guy in a wheelchair pull himself into it. THATS how good it was.

You pick right up there, focus ST and possibly a Mustang GT, which may end up being either an Explorer or a Taurus SHO due to demand.

They have three different shades of green available, and a purple! It's rare to find any green color, let alone a choice of 3. I wouldn't get that shade, but I like that they offer it.
What if the Chevy SS was a Honda or Toyota, with a V8, RWD, mag ride, and a manual trans, for high $40s? I think people would be going nuts over it. But somehow a $48k Chevy sedan seems too much? I don't get it. I like the car and think it is priced reasonably for what it is. They look a litle boring, but they look better in person than in pictures. The interior is actually pretty nice too.

I think we had red green and black for the F Type, all Rs. It is a nice car, I'm not into new cars so much but I would give it a go! 2 seats for me is tough because of the dogs.

Or make the Impala the SS, what it should've been. Historically at least.

Yeah in dark green these look nice.
Honestly, I think they are definitely fairly priced. A little less than an base model E-class, and you get RWD, V8, Manual sedan. Not bad at all.

yeah I'm really excited to test out the ST, not really looking to buy one, but I'm very curious to see if they'll meet up to the Oppo/Jalopnik hype.

Same, I'd like a Fiesta ST. But there's other options which I like just as much. FWD is the only thing scaring me away to be honest.

I think there is a part of my brain wired to automatically love cars others show disdain toward. That would explain the Aztec, my Taurus, this and several other cars.

If I was interested in a "muscle sedan" you know what comes to mind? The Dodge Charger, not this.

No, the real reason is that it looks like every sedan in the line up. At the price point it needs to either be flashy or classy. It is neither. As a G8 owner who was looking to trade, this is just a major snooze. I'd much rather buy a Holden body and a super charger for my existing car.

from the beginning Chevrolet wasn't planning on mass producing these things, I large chunk of them are special order. I wish I could have got into the conversation on Jalopnik when the article was posted, mainly because I wanted to point out that people are not paying 48-50k for these things. I know of several people who have ordered new 2015s for 40-42k. These cars are amazing, IMO, the interiors are gorgeous and have great quality of materials. If the Focus RS isn't what I'm hoping there's a good chance I'll be trying to obtain an SS.
And that green does suck, but the Perfect Blue is beautiful.

I don't think its because it is a Chevy/GM.
I think it is because:
1- Basically no marketing at all (been said before, but still true).
2- Every available one is $40k+. They need more of a range of models to compete. I've posted about this before, but I think they need a Charger competitor on at least some level. You can't sell the 'halo' model without the v6 base model. Usually it works theo ther way - the 'halo' model helps you sell the base model. Since they don't have a base/lower model to sell = lower sales.
3- Styling sucks. In my opinion, it gets lost in the Impala/Malibu line. That color sucks too - I like green, but not that green.
4- At the price, you have other options, assuming you don't need or deman v8/rwd. How many buyers are limiting the search for a sedan with a V8 and Rwd? Based on the sales numbers, I'm guessing the answer is not very many.
5- I think they are missing an opportunity by not couching it as a Camaro 4dr (i.e. if you want a nice performance sedan, but don't want to spend the $ on a Cts-V...)

I sat in one at an auto show and was actually impressed. it is a big car, good legroom front and back. The GM rep there came over and asked how I liked it. I said I was surprised how nice the interior is and the overall size. She said yeah it is a 4 door Camaro with a big back seat.
I am seriously considering a SS and look at it this way:
1. 2016 CTS-V approx $85k
2. 2016 Charger Hellcat $65k
3. 2016 Chevy SS manual $45k
The SS is clearly the slowest car but the manual counts for a lot in overall driving experience. I'm not concerned about winning a race but I am concerned about having a good handling FUN car to drive. The SS may be the underdog winner in that category here, and for as much as $40k less than a CTSV.
I want RWD and I like the V8 power. If I am going FWD I'm going 4 cylinder Accord for a lot less money.

The 4dr camaro comment is almost exactly my point it isn't. Its a 4dr high end camaro only, while removing the 6cyl and other trim options. You can't fail to provide any of the options and then complain that it doesn't sell.... that like being a tv store who used to sell everything and now only sells one kind of flat panel TV - of course sales are going to drop.
I personally agree with you that the SS is a bargain at that trim level. I've long lamented that we can't get a 4dr muscle car that has a stick. I'm glad they offer it, but they should also offer a base v8 car in the $30k range. I would buy one if I had a $45k new car budget. (basically, I can afford the payments but I am a believer in not having any debt and I don't have $45k in cash to devote to a new car).
I continue to post about it because I do not think it will survive past this model cycle. It is almost like GM set it up not to sell so they could say "look, it didn't sell.... we gave it to you and you didn't buy it"
Camaro Sales for 2014: ~86,297 units
SS Sales for 2014:~2897
Now I get there may be other reasons for the sales differences, but I submit three of those reasons have to be:
1) Less available options / trim levels / prices on the SS
2) Basically no marketing for SS
3) Styling on SS is barely different than Impala / Malibu to the average consumer
